Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.
Joseph Addison
It is not true that we have only one life to live; if we can read, we can live as many more lives and as many kinds of lives as we wish.
S.I. Hayakawa
All people deserve the opportunity to learn to read and write. Literacy is a precondition to education. But one in five people in the world cannot read. Nearly 900 million adults in the world are illiterate -- and 113 million children who are not in school risk the same fate.
Today, education for all must not just be an ideal -- it must be a reality.
For people throughout the world, literacy is freedom -- the freedom to learn independently and continuously throughout life. Literacy gives us the freedom to transform ourselves from who we are to who we want to become.
Remarks by Mrs. Bush at UNESCO - Decade of Literacy

Stanley Library Loves Ride to Read! |
“The Ride to Read Rally is a highlight of the summer for the Stanley Community Library. For the past two years we have been the recipient of books and funds to purchase books from the rally. This has been our only means of purchasing new books for our library during these years. Last year we added almost 50 new books in the adult section alone. What a treat to be able to check out a book on the current best seller list! Thank you again, Ride to Read, for this wonderful boost for our library!”
